Health Q Consulting (Health Q) was appointed by the Rural Support Service (RSS) from SA Health to scope the viability of a clinical education and training model.
The clinical education and training model will strengthen allied and scientific health clinical placement opportunities and support development of the rural workforce training pipeline in South Australia. This project focused on student placement supports, supervisor placement supports, and placement coordination and connection.

Scoped the viability and sustainability of a contemporary clinical education and training model that will strengthen rural allied and scientific health clinical placement opportunities and support development of the rural workforce training pipeline in rural SA.
Detailed a contemporary rural allied and scientific health clinical education and training model for regional LHNs, giving consideration to:
The role and function of crucial rural allied and scientific health clinical placement support roles,
Governance and location of crucial rural allied and scientific health clinical placement support roles,
Available and appropriate funding for crucial rural allied and scientific health clinical placement support roles, including a health economics led consideration of level of investment against intended outcome,
Strategies to increase collaboration of allied and scientific health clinical placement stakeholders across education, State and Commonwealth-funded health and private/NGO health sectors,
Strategies to enable sustainability and the embedment of a rural allied and scientific health clinical education model across rural South Australia; and
Proposed a test model for trial in Yorke and Northern LHN.
Based on the defined objectives of this project, and in conjunction with preliminary readings in the rural allied and scientific health clinical education and training space, eight themes of enquiry were identified. Emphasis on student placement supports, supervisor placement supports, and placement coordination and connection occurred within each theme.
A range of relevant stakeholders and subject matter experts in the rural allied and scientific health clinical education and training field were identified. In total the evaluation consulted with 71 people through online video or telephone consultation.
